Recipe for Seared Yellowfin Ahi Tuna Steaks
There’s alot of truth to the phrase “it’s event better when you caught it”. In the case of the tuna from the Venice Louisiana fishing trip that was definitely no lie. When we got back I took some of the fresh tuna we had and whipped up the following recipe for some amazing ahi tuna. This recipe only takes minutes to prep and a few minutes to cook.
For the ahi tuna, start by cutting your fresh tuna into 1″ thick steaks. If you are using frozen tuna, I recommend sitting the tuna on a plate covered in plastic wrap and letting the tuna thaw in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Once the tuna is thawed and ready, start by making the marinade.
Seared Ahi Tuna Steaks
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Marinating Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 4 Yellowfin Tuna Steaks
- 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2 Tbsp Honey
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1/4 Tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
Garnishing
- 1/4 Cup Chopped Green Onions
- 2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- Lime Wedges
-
Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Make sure honey dissolves fully. Place in a container and fully coat tuna steaks with mixture. Marinate the steaks for a minimum of 15 minutes and as long as 2 hours.
-
In a non-stick skillet or cast iron skillet, heat to medium-high.
-
Add the olive oil to the skillet and cook steaks on each side based on the desired doneness you desire. Sear for 1 minute on each side for medium rare, 1½ minutes for medium, and 2 minutes for medium-well.
-
Once steaks are cooked on each side, remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes. Cut into slices and garnish with the green onions, toasted sesame seeds, and lime wedges. Then tear that shit up!!
